The Veterans' Land in Senneville
ACSSA intends to preserve the original vocation of the
Veterans' land in Senneville. This property contains approximately 60.7 acres
of land of which roughly 17.3 acres are zoned as institutional and 43.4 acres
are zoned for the golf course
From an environmental viewpoint it is essential that the
Veterans' Land be maintained with its present vocation i.e:
- the maintenance of green space;
- the maintenance of the property as part of a Migratory Bird
Santuary as designated by Environment Canada;
- the maintenance of existing mature trees;
- the maintenance of a building density and architectural
design similar to the status quo.
It is imperative that remaining green space be protected and
preserved for the health of the entire Island of Montreal such remaining
green space constitutes the lungs of the Island!
The use of the 17.3 acre institutional zone for an affordable
seniors' housing Community would be an extremely beneficial use of the land.
Veterans would have priority to housing in this community with a
second-priority to the other stakeholders of ACSSA.
In Canada, according to Plan Canada, there are over 60
seniors' housing communities with most of those located in Ontario. Quebec to
proportionately mirror the situation in Ontario should have over 40 seniors'
housing communities. The utilization of the institutional zone for this purpose
presents a unique opportunity, given the existing demographics, to respond to
real housing needs of veterans and seniors.
